On April 13, 2006 a F2 tornado struck Iowa City, from Chezik Bell Honda on highway 1, to the downtown area. Here are some photos I took of the unbelievable damage.
Highway 1 - The first reports of tornado damage were in this south-west corner of Iowa City
The Pedestrian Mall - In this popular college bar district, the roofs were taken off of The Union Bar and Martinis. You can now see the sky by looking through the windows.
Downtown - The Happy Joe's building, now with the side of the building behind it on top of it, is where my daughter has celebrated her last 2 birthdays.
St. Patricks Church - 70 church members were inside the church for service when the tornado struck. Thankfully, none of them were killed.
Residential - Located just east of the downtown area, the residential area suffered the most damage in my opinion. Homes were destroyed, the Alpha Chi Omega sorority house lost its roof and one whole side of the house fell off, and cars and trees were scattered everywhere.
